We hope you all had a
wonderful thanksgiving! We enjoyed ours with the MAF-US
family here in Kampala. During this thanksgiving Kampala
was busy hosting the Commonwealth heads of Government
meetings (CHOGM). As far as I understand it, these are
meetings of former British colonies (now known as the
commonwealth). As part of this, the Queen of England,
Prince Philip, and the prime minister of England all
visited. That meant many of our flights between Entebbe and
Congo had to be postponed for the week due to security
reasons. It was kind of fun watching all the VIPs run
around town with police escorts. The last few months have
been full of preparations for CHOGM which meant lots of road
work and delays. We are enjoying the nice roads now
though!!
Two weeks ago we
started a routine inspection on our Caravan (the big plane)
and found a significant problem with the engine. We have
sent the parts to the states for repair but there have been
some shipping problems. We would ask that you pray for
speed in the repair and shipping the parts back here. Our
Caravan is vital to our ministry here especially in
transporting desperately needed medicines to remote
locations. For you techies who are wondering what's wrong
with the engine??? Come on tell us!! O.K. We found a crack
in one of the blades of our compressor turbine. That's
immediate cause for grounding since it spins at over 33,000
rpm.
In other news, our
house worker Jalia was pregnant with twins but has had some
recent complications. Unfortunately, today she went into
early labor and lost both babies. Please pray for physical
healing for Jalia after the delivery as well as emotional
healing for her and her husband Mark. We have had the
unique opportunity of standing by Jalia and Mark to show
Christ's love through this situation. Jalia is a strong
Christian but can still use your prayers for healing.
We would also covet
your prayers for Amy's brother and sister-in-law - John &
Kim. Kim was also pregnant with their second baby and lost
the baby last week. Please be in prayer for physical and
emotional healing.
We thank you for your
prayers and support. It is comforting to know such a
wonderful team is with us in times like these. Blessings
and happy holidays!
